Free Your Inner Writer: Step Six
One of the most important things for any writer is to learn to write on a schedule. So this step will begin the process of training your brain for planned writing. This is not to say that you cannot write at other times, but during this exercise that is discouraged. If you want writing to be a nine-to-five job, then you need to learn to create on a schedule. We’ll cover more on that when we get to the creativity course, but for now, this is what you need to know.
For the next five days, schedule one hour each day to write. Begin, as usual, by relaxing. Spend the first thirty minutes by jotting in your notebook any responses or reactions to the first statement below. Use the second thirty minute period to take what you’ve written and develop it into a letter, a short story, a poem or whatever you choose. When your hour is completed, stop writing even if you haven’t finished what you wanted to say.
After the fifth day, repeat the above scenario using the second statement. Continue to use this exercise until you can fully complete the writing of one of your thoughts in the allotted time for three consecutive days.
First statement: I am a writer because…
Second statement: I wish…
