Free Your Inner Writer: Step Seven
What’s the first step?
That’s right. Begin by relaxing. Take the name of the first object or person that pops into your mind and write it in the center of a page in your notebook. Circle it. Then take any thoughts or ideas that come forward spontaneously and write them around your first thought. Circle them and connect them with a line to your first thought. Continue to follow this process, even if it takes you to a second or third page, until you feel the need to write. Then do just that. You may come up with a few strong lines, a lengthy work or a modest sentence. As always, what you come out with doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you write.
Continue this exercise until you’ve generated, for five consecutive days, written material based on your circle drawings.
As always, remember to jot any notes, ideas or reactions to this exercise in your notebook.
